Have you ever heard yourself saying, “Yes,” to someone, when your mind was screaming, “NOOOOO!”?

Yep, we get it. We’ve been there, too…more times than we’d like to remember. And those stories usually never end well.

Why do so many of us do this? How can we so quickly and unequivocally dole out yet another “Yes,” when most of us already feel overcommitted and overwhelmed?

If you find yourself falling into this common trap, you’re not alone. This is one of the biggest challenges we witness in working with accountants.

You may have a deep desire to help others. In fact, this could be one of the things that makes you so good at your job!

But, there is a dark side to assuming that an automatic yes is helpful. In fact, every time you say, “Yes,” to something, you say, “No” to other possibilities. When you say, “Yes,” too much, you say, “No,” to yourself.

When you hand out automatic yeses, you’ll likely find yourself unable to follow through on the commitments you made. Or, perhaps, you will do whatever it takes to follow through on your commitments, yet you don’t perform at your best and sacrifice your health and well-being in the process. Neither of these behavioral patterns serve anyone in the long run. Ironically, your desire to please others can result in letting yourself and others down.

What could be possible for you when you start challenging your mindset – when you stop giving the automatic, “Yes,” and start making more conscious commitments?

If you’re ready to find out, we’re here to support you:
